One of the most interesting mountains of Iran, with an altitude of about 4,800 m., is Sabalan which is originally a volcanic mountain. The summit is located 41 km. from Ardabil and can be easily observed while traveling on the road to Sar Ein and Ardabil

This peak is covered with seasonal glaciers. Mountaineers ascend to the peak through Hafashjan after passing a long valley (Seyed Qani garden) and also Dalanak seasonal glacier.

These mountain ranges are the continuation of the Alborz Mountain Range. The Aladaq running 170 km. at a stretch, lies between the Koorkhod Mountains to the west, and Binalood Range to the east.

The direction of these ranges are from the north-west to the south-east and are a continuation of the Kapeh Daq and Balkhan Mountains situated in Tukemenistan.
